Frequently Asked Questions
This page is a collection of some of the questions I get most often. Also check out the Known Bugs section.
Q: How do I include images in my signature?
You will need to upload your image to a place on the web that anyone can access and point the src="" tag to that location... read more
Q: Why is the add-on listed as "Experimental"?
When an add-on is released to the Firefox add-on site, it goes into the sand-box (experimental mode) until someone has time to officially review it on behalf of Mozilla. They're horribly backed up since the release of Firefox 3, so it may be quite a while longer before it's publicly listed. That said, the add-on itself is by no means experimental. It's been thoroughly tested and should be running virtually bug-free.
Q: Why do I get "Unknown Install Error"?
This occurs due to old or corrupted installed extensions. Read more here...
Q: How do I remove old versions of the script?
If you have an old version of the script (before the Blank Canvas Gmail Signatures v1.08 Firefox add-on), you will want to remove it to avoid conflicts. If you're using the Greasemnokey install of v1.07, open Greasemonkey ("Tools" > "Greasemonkey" > "Manage User Scripts") then highlight the old Gmail HTML Signatures and click Uninstall. If you're using the Better Gmail 2 install of the script, open the Better Gmail 2 options ("Tools" > "Better Gmail 2"), go to the "Compose" tab, and un-check the HTML Signatures box.
Q: Can I create multiple signatures?
The add-on allows you to create up to four signatures per address you have set up in your Gmail account. Notice how the signature changes and the "Edit" button may change to "Create" when you change from addresses or signature selector.
Q: How do I move my signatures to another computer?
Your signatures will only work on computers using Firefox for which you have installed this extension. Once you have this extension working on the computer you want to use, you will have to email the HTML code of your signatures to yourself so that you can copy and paste them into the signature tools on the new computer.
Q: Why doesn't my signature save?
Chances are you're still using the old Greasemonkey script or the version included in the Better Gmail 2 add-on. These versions have been discontinued, are no longer supported, and are not very stable in Firefox 3. Consider un-installing these versions (or unchecking the Gmail HTML Signatures box in Better Gmail 2, then installing the latest stand-alone Blank Canvas Gmail Signatures add-on.
Q: Why do I get a "Invalid file hash" error when trying to install the add-on?
I have had a report of an error when trying to install the script from the official Firefox add-on site. So far this has only occured on a Mac and to one person, but I wanted to put this up in case anyone else had the same exerience. Click here for move information.
